White Bird of Paradise is the ultimate bold tropical statement plant. Its enormous, paddle-shaped leaves grow on long, upright stems and can reach several feet in length, creating a dramatic, lush silhouette that instantly transforms any room into a tropical oasis. Given enough light and space it grows into a towering indoor tree, eventually producing striking white and blue flowers in maturity. It is one of the most sought-after large indoor plants available.
Good for beginners? Yes, with attention to light and watering. White Bird of Paradise is more forgiving than its dramatic size suggests. It communicates clearly when it needs water and tolerates average home humidity well. The key is giving it enough light.
Safe for cats and dogs? White Bird of Paradise is mildly toxic to pets if ingested. Keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
Light needs: Bright indirect to some direct light is ideal — the more the better. It is one of the few large indoor plants that can handle and actively benefits from some direct sun through a window. Low light causes slow growth and smaller, less dramatic leaves.
Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Feed monthly in spring and summer. Wipe large leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and maximize light absorption. Give it room — it will grow wide as well as tall.
Ships fresh from one of our two greenhouse locations in a nursery pot. Covered by our 30-Day Plant Guarantee — if it arrives damaged, we replace it. Free shipping on orders $149+.
